The Vegan Month of Food (Vegan MOFO) is here! For the whole month of October, vegan food bloggers across the internet are going to be talking about the awesomeness of vegan eats! Study Finds Organic Foods are More Healthy

The French Agency for Food Safety (AFSSA) released a study last week that outlines a number of health benefits to eating organic food. This comes on the heels of a UK study that said just the opposite. According to the AFSSA study, organic foods are not only more nutritious, but they’re safer. Seed Banks and the Future of Food

I’m not sure what it is about Seed Banks, but I love hearing about these fantastic facilities that are storing the world’s seeds. Maybe it’s that idea of archiving all of that biodiversity…it feels like such a noble thing. Maybe it makes me feel a little safer knowing there are folks out there preserving our food options. It’s hard to say, but this TED Talk gets me all emotional for whatever reason.

Alamo Square Park Shoe Garden

Hearts and Fences

I am in love with this project from Outdoor Knit!!!

They decorated a chain link fence by an abandoned lot with tiny yarn hearts. Tons of folks from the community came to help, and I think it just adds so much beauty and whimsy to a previously cheerless place. I’d love to see something like this in Atlanta! Goodness knows we’ve got enough vacant lots and chain link fences!

Been Picklin’

Inspired by Leuwam’s pickled grapes, I decided to give this pickling thing a try. You guys! I want to pickle everything now. Since this was my very first time pickling anything, I thought I’d play it safe and try some simpler recipes. A little googling and a chat with Liz left me with two recipes that felt pretty manageable. Of course, I can never leave well enough alone, so here are my adapted versions!

I’ve got the recipes along with a bunch more pickle pictures over on my blog!

Garbage Garbage Can

I am sort of swooning over this garbage can made of garbage from Craftster user lovething:

She got the project idea from Mark Montano’s Big-Ass Book of Crafts. We’ve actually got some placemats and coasters made with a similar method that my mother-in-law got me for Christmas at 10,000 Villages. They’re awesome and very sturdy!
